Lying Down With Dogs

There is a saying, “If you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas.” I’ve never had the displeasure of waking up with fleas, just wet…from lying in the grass with my dogs. And they do sleep in the bed every night. Still, there have been no fleas. A couple of days ago, I played in the grass with my dogs, even taking a nice nap. We thought it was wonderful! In the summer they enjoy the cool, wet grass on their bellies and feet. I seem to always end up in grass that is part dry (beneath most of my body in the sun) and part wet (beneath my upper body and face in the shade). I’m okay with that, as long as I don’t have to go anywhere afterward.

Have you heard of “earthing?” It’s the idea that earth energy moves from the bare earth into our bodies, primarily through our feet. Earth energy heals us and gives us a feeling of physical health. In our modern times, we wear shoes and walk on concrete and surfaces other than the ground. This blocks earth energy from being absorbed by our feet. I don’t know if this is true but I love being barefoot and, like my dogs, lying in the grass. I “earth” with my whole body. The pleasure of it makes me feel good and lessens my Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue. In winter snow, where I live, I miss my earthing opportunities. There are products that provide earth energy without the dirt, or frostbite. If you have you tried an earthing product, please let me know in the comments what you think.

The summer days of playing in the grass with my dogs are coming to an abrupt close, as it does every year. Autumn is here, and it has brought the colder weather with it. A few weeks ago, the temperatures in my town plunged so low it snowed. It warmed back up, but the next time the temperature plunges it will be that way until spring.

I enjoy the changing seasons. Each smells different, as does the feeling of the air on my skin. The verdant smell of spring, with its brisk, clean morning air is my favorite. After the snow melts, that smell and feel introduces me to the warmer weather to come. My favorite pastime during the warmer mornings is yoga on my deck. Afterward, I wrap myself in a quilt to drink coffee and write outside until I feel the air warm for the day.

Whatever season you experience today, may you enjoy yourself and your favorite pastime.

Cheers,

Julie
